My blood is toxic to vampires . . .

If there's one thing I want, it's go get off this iceberg. I'm thinking college on the east coast. ANYWHERE besides Alaska.

Then a near-fatal car wreck changes everything. Government agents jump in and save my life in exchange for my services as a vampire hunter. Did they just say vampires? Yep. And they're not the kind that sparkle. They're rabid, disgusting, rude . . . and way too suave. Those are the ones I really have to watch out for.

˃˃˃ A knife isn't my only weapon. My rare blood type sends vampires into temporary paralysis right before I have to finish the job by hand. Basically I'm a glorified chew toy.

Now I'm stuck with an overzealous partner, a group of suck junkies, and a maddening attraction to Mr. Joe Cool, dresses all in black, Fane Donado. I don't know if I want to punch him or kiss him, but clearly he's keeping secrets of his own.

˃˃˃ The old Aurora is gone forever. Destroyed in the wreckage. I don’t know who I am anymore, only that I suddenly have intense cravings and a V.I.P. pass into Alaska’s underworld.

If vampires found out who I worked for it would be lights out forever. In the meantime, I have some undead ass to kick so long as it doesn't kick mine first.

What I love about this book is the whole rare blood type angle. In this book, a person with a certain rare blood type can be injected with a certain drug cocktail that will temporally paralyze any vampire that drinks from the infect person. The book also talks about how the vampires are products of humans who had a certain blood type and died from a sickness and in return came back alive as vampires, or they were bitten by another vampire. This is a take on vampires that I have never experienced before, which makes it all the more interesting. People start getting boring with a certain book genre if the authors of that genre stick to the same outline. We need new takes on this long loved paranormal genre. Majority of people who enjoy reading love being able to escape their boring, human lives and feel like they are living a more exciting one. So, props to Nikki Jefford for coming up with a unique, interesting take on vampires and vampire hunters.

My love for this series isn’t only because it takes place in the very place I dream to move to, or the new twist on vampires and vampire hunters, but the amazing characters that are in this book. Aurora is a good example of a strong female lead. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind and knows what she wants in life. Dante is such a hilarious and sweet character. If Aurora won’t date him, I surely will. Noel is such a sweet and trustworthy character who would make the best friend in the world. Fane is a very interesting character. He seems to put on the bad boy image, when he is not as bad as he makes himself appear to be. However, he is definitely capable of extreme violence if provoked. Joss is a very interesting character who you might never completely understand. Valeria is an untrustworthy bitti who needs to be put in her place. I love Marcus, he seems to not have a care in the world and appears to be a very sweet guy. Lastly, Agent Melcher. I cannot stand that man! He is so creepy and seems to be out of his mind.

I love this book and recommend it to all who love vampire books. Even if you aren’t a huge fan of vampire books, I still believe you’d fall in love with this one. So go check it out and give the author some love!

Aurora Sky Vampire Hunter A Paranormal Vampire Romance Mystery edition by Nikki Jefford Romance eBooks Reviews

Honestly, I did not expect to love this series anywhere near the level that I have. I expected a very typical vampire tale but was pleasantly surprised.

Aurora is, as you would guess, a vampire hunter. The first novel is essentially the story of how this about and her first experiences with the walking undead. My initial reaction was, "Yes! A Vamp novel that doesn't just swoon over vampires!", which is only partially true- but nonetheless, I really like how this series handles vampires. They are not overly glamorized, sparkly, or *always* sexy. Vampires in Aurora's world can be pretty darn scary and they come in a variety of flavors. The premise is essentially that vampires are all AB Negative blood types that have contracted a fatal disease and died, but due to their rare blood type, they turn into vampires at the point of death rather than corpses. Vampire Hunters are born of the same blood and diseases; they are lab created by injecting all the various fatal diseases a vampire might encounter into the AB negative subject. The hunter's blood then becomes instant poison to any vampire who drinks it, thus making them easier to kill. But, of course, there are a few catches to this new life.

Aurora is relate-able and while I feel bad for her during many turns of the story, I also definitely *get* her and the reactions she has to events in the story. Sometimes you want to slap her, but that is a sign of good character development in my eyes. A character should never bee 100% likeable, or you just have a Mary Sue living out a fantasy of the author. The closest thing I could compare Aurora to is Buffy (the Vampire Slayer) as she is spunky, funny, and fairly badass... though (much) less annoying. Plus the vampires range from mega scary to pretty hot, so definitely some similarities.
But I digress. The other characters are well thought out, and as the series progresses, definitely develop a lot more. I can see why Fane has so many readers swooning, though he doesn't do a whole lot for me personally. I feel he is the most predictable character and part of the story from the moment he appears, but having my suspicions confirmed does not negate the enjoyment of reading.

The plot is rich, gritty, and interesting, I could not put my kindle down- and I bought the 2nd book within 10 minutes of finishing this one. It is honestly *that* good. If you enjoy this book, ABSOLUTELY buy the next one, I devoured it in one day.
The Good
This was an unusual theme for a story, using AB negative blood types to explain vampirism and the newer superhuman hunters meant to destroy them. I was impressed. I like how everything was explained and tied together through history.

The Bad
I would have liked to know more about Aurora's relationships with the people in her life before she became a hunter. What kind of relationship did she have with her friend Denise? The changes to their relationship were hinted at after she became a hunter, and supposedly it was her "death" that made those changes occur, but I felt like the changes were already in place before her "death". The same is true for her relationship with her parents. Her Mom seems to be around a lot but her dad is hardly ever in the picture. Why? What's going on there?

The Review
Overall, I found this to be an entertaining read that held my attention. I liked the vampire mythos as well as the hunter mythos. It would be interesting to learn how long the modified hunters have been around. Also, it would be interesting to know why Aurora's mom was allowed to make decisions about her life when Aurora was eighteen and legally able to make her own decisions.
